The Art of Lighting
Teen Art Week
July 13-17 • 6:00-8:30 • $200
Light is a magical source; it transforms what might otherwise be bland and makes everything "wow." The role of lighting in art is often underestimated, but it is perhaps the most important element of all. This week, teens will learn how to use and and manipulate natural light in artwork. We will work with real photography lights so teens with get an upclose and visural on how light effects mood, drama, and composition in an artwork. We will also get inspired by movies that use light as symbolism and look at artists in history who were famous for using dramatic lighting.
Photograph and create thumbnails studies on how light changes effects the scene
Create a "Chiaroscuro" drawing (the use of strong contrasts between light and dark for dramatic effect)
Learn how to make the illusion of light in a painting, so it looks like it is glowing.
Create a painting, drawing, or sculpture with LED lights.
